Pannarama Temple Schedule

Temple Rules
During your meditation retreat with us we ask you to follow certain conduct. This is to maintain harmony with all meditators, as well as to make the most of your meditation practice while you are here. All initial retreats at this temple are for a maximum of one week. If you would like to extend your stay, please ask the head monk at the end of that period.
Silence
We need silence in the temple to support Sati meditation.
Keep meditation schedule
Visitors should keep to a schedule of at least four hours each day in the meditation hall. Additional meditation should be observed during working, cooking and eating in the temple, as well as walking about the property. Traditionally, in temples a schedule of 13-15 hours of meditation is observed in order to help you progress your practice to the next stage.
Telephone, email, outside contact, reading and music.
During your stay these should be limited; however you may ask the head monk if you really need to contact someone. Reading and listening to music are not allowed during meditation retreats. Please make sure your family knows you will not be taking messages while on retreat. (You must keep your mobile phone, MP3 player, etc.) in the office while you’re staying in Pannarama.
Awareness
Whatever you are doing, try to bring awareness to each action. Whether you are gardening, walking, showering, cooking or drinking tea, these are all opportunities for sati meditation practice. Please also stay aware of time and be punctual to group meditation practice and meetings.
Keep to the temple schedule
We have a schedule for meals, working together, sleeping and meeting with the head monk. Observing this schedule is part of meditation practice.
Conserve Resources
Please be mindful of using lights, gas, water and other resources while at the temple.
Food
All food is to be kept and consumed in the kitchen and dining area please. The temple does not allow any alcohol, drugs or cigarettes on the property. We do not allow the consumption of meat, however milk, cheese and eggs are allowed. Unless you have a medical need, food is not to be consumed at the temple after 1pm. Beverages are OK at anytime.
Your Accommodation
During your stay please keep your room neat and clean at all times. When you finish your stay, please put any dirty linen from the temple in the laundry room.
Retreat cost
The centre relies on donations and volunteer hours. You are expected to contribute towards your food, accomodation and general maintenance of the centre by paying $50 per day for the duration of the retreat.

If you cannot keep these rules for any reason please speak to someone in the office.
